Frequently Asked Questions

It's not every day you receive cheese in the mail and we want to make sure your questions are answered. Here are a few of the most common questions we've heard from gift recipients over the years.

When Will My Order Ship?

Due to the delicate handling of perishable shipments, we follow a shipping schedule for all of our perishable products. Perishable orders shipped via FedEx Ground or FedEx 2 Day are shipped only Monday through Wednesday to avoid weekend delays in transit. All FedEx Ground and 2 Day orders placed after 3 pm on Tuesday are shipped the following Monday. Please note that the shipping method you choose reflects how long the package is in transit once it is shipped.

Does the Recipient Need to Sign for the Package?

All packages containing alcohol must be received by an adult 21 years of age or older. If your package does not contain alcohol, FedEx will leave the package if no one is there to receive it, as long there is a safe and secure place to do so.

How Much is Shipping for a Monthly Membership?

The shipping cost calculated during checkout is based on shipment for the entire length of the membership, and no additional charges or transactions occur once your order is placed.

When Will My Monthly Membership Begin?

All membership orders placed before the 20th of the current month will ship the first full week of the following month; within a week of purchase, the recipient will be notified via USPS of the specific dates they can expect to receive their memberships each month for the duration of their membership.

Does someone need to be home for local delivery?

Yes, because we are delivering perishable products we always require someone to be available to sign for the package when choosing local delivery as your shipping option. If you are having wine delivered an adult (21+) must be available to take the delivery.

Why is a time slot for in store pickup unavailable?

In order to help ensure the best customer experience we spread our in store pickups out over the course of a day so our staff can provide speedy service to everyone.

Why does my cheese have such a strong smell?

Cheese can develop a pungent odor when it’s been trapped in a small space. It’s perfectly normal for your cheese to stink! Also, some cheeses are also naturally much smellier than others. Refrigerate your cheese and it should be fine when you come back to it later. Some particularly pungent or natural rinded cheeses may need to breathe, so once they cool down, unwrap them and let them sit on the counter for 10 – 15 minutes. After that, if your cheese smells like chemicals or ammonia, give us a call.

Is my cheese okay if the ice pack melted?

Cheese is designed to have a long shelf life. We include ice packs to keep it nice and cool in transit and we pack our boxes with your destination in mind. Even if your ice pack has melted, rest assured that your cheese was kept at a safe temperature throughout the shipping process.

How should I store my cheese?

When storing your cheese, use the cheese paper on the outside and re-wrap it carefully. This paper is specifically designed to let the cheese breathe while keeping it fresh. Wax paper or parchment is ok too, but plastic wrap can suffocate your cheese – it needs to breathe! When refrigerating your cheese, keep in mind that it can easily absorb orders, so try not to store it near smelly items like onions. Find a spot well away from your refrigerator’s fan, since direct air flow can dry your cheese out.

How long will my cheese last?

Softer cheeses are more delicate and should be consumed within 7-10 days. Harder cheeses are built to last and can be good for 3 – 4 weeks. Don’t be afraid of the green mold that might show up on your cheese, you can just scrape it off. It’s completely harmless and won’t affect the flavor or shelf life of your cheese.

How should I serve my cheese?

For the best possible flavor and texture, you should always let your cheese come to room temperature for at least an hour before serving it. Different types of cheeses have very distinct flavors, so it’s best to use separate utensils for them - the mold from blue cheese can even spread to other foods and cheeses! You can’t go wrong with crusty bread or crackers, but you can also try your cheese with fresh or dried fruits, olives, nuts, jams, honey, pickles, charcuterie or even chocolate for a whole new flavor experience.

If you still have any concerns about your order or the cheese that came with it, please don’t hesitate to call us at 800.721.4781. We love to hear from you!
